ISTM Welcomes New Students at the 2026 Freshman Welcome Feast

Feng Chia University’s International School of Technology and Management (ISTM) hosted the 2026 Freshman Welcome Feast at Virtuosi Hall on September 4, 2026. A total of 219 freshmen, faculty members, and international guests gathered for the occasion. Through welcoming remarks and luncheon networking, the event officially welcomed the new students to the ISTM community and marked the beginning of their university journey. The event was honored by the presence of Chairman Cheng-Shu Kao, Vice President Shu-Ting Li, and distinguished guests from The University of Queensland (UQ), Australia. Together with ISTM Dean Chiu, Associate Dean Liu, Associate Dean Chien, CEO Chung, and faculty members from each first-year programs in welcoming the new students.

The UQ delegation included Liesl Folks, Executive Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Architecture and Information Technology; Aleksandar Rakić, Associate Dean; Michael Brünig, Head of the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science; and Angela Li, Senior Manager of International Engagement. Representing the delegation, Executive Dean Liesl Folks delivered remarks encouraging students to embrace new challenges, broaden their international perspectives, and actively take advantage of opportunities for intercultural learning and exchange. She encouraged students to learn from diverse experiences and gradually discover their own interests and directions.

More than a welcome luncheon, the Freshman Welcome Feast served as an important starting point for freshmen to become acquainted with the school, faculty members, and fellow students. The event included welcoming speeches, a group photo, and a luncheon, creating a relaxed and engaging environment where students could connect with one another before their academic programs officially began..

ISTM has long been committed to advancing international education and providing students with opportunities to study and engage in a global learning environment. The participation of UQ representatives highlighted the strong relationship between ISTM and its international partners. It also enabled freshmen to experience the school’s diverse and international learning environment from the very beginning of their university journey.

The event was organized by ISTM and “the ISTM Vanguard of Excellence,” a student organization within the school. Senior students assisted with guest reception, student guidance, and event coordination. Their participation not only conveyed a warm welcome to the freshmen but also reflected the spirit of mutual support, connection, and student-to-student mentorship within the ISTM community.

With the successful conclusion of the Freshman Welcome Feast, a new chapter of university life has officially begun for the freshmen. ISTM looks forward to seeing each student embrace new challenges, broaden their horizons, and make the most of the diverse learning opportunities at Feng Chia University and ISTM. Through interdisciplinary learning and international engagement, students are encouraged to explore their interests, discover their own paths, and build meaningful experiences throughout their university years.
