FCU-SJSU Bachelor's Program in Business Analytics - Successful symposium connecting school and parents

FCU-SJSU (Feng Chia University - San Jose State University) Bachelor’s Program in Business Analytics held a symposium on October 30, 2017, inviting parents of freshmen and sophomores for a chance to have face-to-face talk with ISTM (International School of Technology and Management) Dean Mitchell Tseng, Program Director Cathy W. S. Chen, and SJSU Associate Director of International Recruitment and Partnerships, Steve Arnold. This symposium included presentations of the study plan and study-abroad application procedures to help parents make connections with our school and ensure parents have adequate information to support students’ education.

• About 50 parents attended this symposium. Program mentors and instructors, Professor Ho-Don Yan, Professor Kun-Jung Lai and Professor Chiung-Ju Huang, and ISTM counselor, Kris Chung, also participated in this event. Parents took this opportunity to further learn the philosophy of Feng Chia University and San Jose State University and interact with our guest and faculty members. Dean Tseng introduced the highlights and teaching objectives of ISTM. In deepening international cooperation, ISTM implements classroom improvement in teaching methods, learning evaluation and cooperative learning. Furthermore, ISTM has always strived for excellence in teaching by inviting foreign instructors to teach on campus, offering new teachers training abroad, and introducing a new advanced teaching system. This symposium allowed parents and teachers to work together to support our students in positive learning journey.
• Steve Arnold from San Jose State University made a special trip to Taiwan, presenting and answering questions at the symposium. He presented the background and features of San Jose State University to the future students and their parents. He also explained the application for dormitory, an issue concerned by many parents. Director Chen and Counselor Kris also discussed the student application documents one by one with Steve Arnold before the symposium to ensure that the application process was fully understood.
• During this symposium, parents communicated with the dean, the director, the program mentors, the counselor and the SJSU guest, Steve Arnold. They discussed about students’ academic performance and strengthened parent teacher collaboration, and in so doing, built a communication platform for future. At the end of the symposium, sophomore students cheered "Go Spartans" (San Jose State Spartans), showing team spirit and pride. They are expected to enter the second phase of college career - San Jose State University in August 2018.
