SFSU-FCU 2+2 Bachelor's Program in Computer Science is highly valued by both Feng Chia University (FCU) and San Francisco State University (SFSU). The first batch of SFSU-FCU 2+2 Bachelor's Program in Computer Science students will go to the United States this summer to start their study abroad, and they are a big step closer to the milestone of obtaining double degrees.

In response to the first batch of students going to study in the United States, 9:00 A.M. on May 11th (6:00 P.M. on May 10th Pacific Time), the Vice President of FCU and the Dean of the International School of Technology and Management (ISTM), Chuang-Chien Chiu led the ISTM Associate Dean, Shyan-Lung Lin, Program Advisor, Fang-Rong Hsu, and Director of Student Success Center, Kris Chung to hold a video conference call together with the representative of San Francisco State University, Dean Shih-Hsung (Alex) Hwu, who is responsible for international cooperation. Dean Hwu is also an outstanding alumnus of the Department of Mechanical and Computer-Aided Engineering at Feng Chia University and showed his concern for the students’ progress of transferring to SFSU.

In this video conference meeting, a number of consensuses were further reached. First of all, ISTM will arrange a bilateral meeting as soon as possible with the College of Science and Engineering, Department of Computer Science, which our students will be majoring in, to review the course mapping for professional courses of both parties. This further discussion will allow students to take more basic professional courses in the first two years at ISTM, FCU to strengthen their skills and abilities before studying in the United States. Secondly, another meeting will also be arranged with the SFSU’s Office of International Program, Office of Undergraduate Education and Academic Planning, and College of Extended Learning to further discuss the possibility of bringing in the five English courses of the general education from SFSU through the mix-module mode combining the in-person class and the online courses. In mix-module mode, students are allowed to take the English courses with both in-person class and online courses in the first two years at ISTM, FCU. It’s not only that the credits can be fully transferred to SFSU, but students can also exempt from the English proficiency test stipulated by the California State University System and reduce the cost of additional courses taking in the United States.

San Francisco State University is close to the Silicon Valley and its Department of Computer Science ranks among the top 10% in the United States. There are more than 1,700 students in the Department of Computer Science. Many international companies’ headquarters are located here, and thus there are many internship and employment opportunities. ISTM has been recruiting students of SFSU-FCU 2+2 Bachelor's Program in Computer Science since 2020. Students spend their first two years studying at Feng Chia University in an all-English environment, completing the English Proficiency Test and academic performance threshold requirements before transferring to San Francisco State University for their third and fourth year of study.   After graduation, students can received degrees from both universities. The 111 academic year is currently under recruiting. For more admission information, please visit the ISTM official website at https://istm.fcu.edu.tw/recruit/.
