Message to Future Students
Riley Huang, FCU-RMIT Program
Hello everyone, I am Riley. At first, why I chose to study in ISTM is that I want to study abroad but I didn’t have any experience of studying in foreign country, so I was afraid that I couldn’t get used to the environment immediately. Noticing that in Feng Chia, I could have two years to prepare in Taiwan before studying abroad. I thought it was a good opportunity, so I applied for this program.
The difference between ISTM and other departments is that our class, exams and assignments are done in English, which is tough but necessary ability for studying abroad. In ISTM, there are some special courses that are likely to appear in foreign countries. Although those courses are more difficult, you can learn a lot. Besides, there are many assignments that require you to do English presentations. In the beginning, I disliked presentations a lot, because I am not such a person that can speak smoothly and confidently in front of the crowd. However, there must be more oral presentations in Australia, so I take these assignments as good practicing opportunities and experiences. Although I still can’t do presentations well, I am getting used to them and gradually improve.
To be honest, I still don’t have a clear goal. I also questioned myself whether my decision was right and whether this program was suitable for me or not. At that time, I would think of my original intention of studying in ISTM and go talk to my parents and teachers. All the teachers in ISTM are kind and care of students a lot, you can always get great advices from them.
It will be much more different studying in Australia. I need to enhance my English ability all the time and I hope I can find out my goal as soon as possible.
For now, there might be many people like me that don’t know what to do in the future but it is okay. I think you can go try and learn different things in order to find your interest which is helpful for you to know what you want.
